Blank – Score

When Alexander Forlenza Podboj reached out to me to compose a score for his short film "Blank", I knew it was going to be a challenge. Not only because the short film was in German, but also because of the themes of the film: grief, guilt and regret. Eventually, after 2 months of daily work in Ableton, and in constant conversation with Alexander, the score for Blank was ready.
This process of composing a Score with a language barrier exposed me to an empathetic exercise: I had to be emotionally open to the feelings conveyed by the cast and do my best to translate it to music. I had to expose myself to what might be a similar empathetic process to the one I perceive in audiences when they are exposed to music. This process ultimately gave me practical insight on how interconnected are visual art forms with music through the expression of emotion.
Synopsis: "Can a father forgive himself after how he disregarded his daughter's dreams?".
